New Telephony System

We have recently invested in a new telephone system, engineered to optimize call routing leading to noticeably reduced wait times when you need us most.

The system ensures your calls are efficiently directed to the appropriate teams; rear leaf spring snapped on your loaded 8-wheeler? Our Head Office team will take care of it. Tractor unit broken down in Inverness and you need it back in the Midlands? Not to worry, our dedicated Dispatch team will have one of our vetted and trusted subcontractors out to you and remain on hand to keep you updated from start to finish.

In short, whilst first-class service has always been our number one priority; the new system (along with our control team, of course) ensures you will experience seamless handling of your breakdowns and hassle-free support from the side of the road until your vehicle is back to base.

RS Takes the South

You may have got used to seeing RS Recovery service vans in and around Basingstoke and surrounding, we have now acquired a new depot in the South, near Southampton.

The opportunity was presented to us after our long-time industry friends announced that they were hanging up their keys after 40 years in the recovery industry. R.D. Avery were leading providers of breakdown, accident and vehicle recovery services across Hampshire, Wiltshire and beyond and we are priveledged to be trusted to build upon their solid foundations. Our new depot is home to 11 service vans and 6 recovery trucks – some new, some relocated from the Midlands.

Our service van technicians have vast industry experience, some with over 20 years in the industry, some Master Technicians from main dealers but all of them willing to do whatever it takes to get your vehicles moving.

As you may know, we are approved service agents for Haldex, Wabco, Gray & Adams, Tiger Trailers, TIP, Schmitz-Cargobull and more. All of our technicians have and continue to receive comprehensive training on these trailers, guaranteeing that you receive optimal service in the most efficient and budget-friendly manner.

Each service van is presented to our technicians fully stocked with parts and equipment that are then tailored to each service van dependent upon their customer base and work load. They also carry welders, generators and gas bottles; 90% of our 5 tonne service vans have a winch, ensuring that we stick to our promise of minimal downtime for our customers.

As for the trucks, you may recognise RS70 RSR – one of our more versatile trucks, originally based at our Tipton Head Office. With a FAS8000+6 system, which features a bed weight capacity of 8000kg and an under-lift capacity of 6000kg, it is capable of recovering anything from a car to a HGV.

FH72 NRC is also based down South. NRC 40T Composite Slider mounted onto a Volvo FH16 750. Find out more here

Update- RS Snowdon Charity Walk

On the 13th of November, 15 members of the RS Recovery team tackled the challenging and strenuous terrains of the PYG track to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust.

After leaving our HQ at the early hours of 3:45 AM, we finally made it to Snowdonia National Park, all rearing to go with our thermal layers to trap out the low temperatures.

We started walking towards the track from the Pen-y-Pass car park at 7:30 AM as the sun rose, we were surrounded by was clouds that covered everything in the distance.

The PYG Track lived up to its expectation and gave us a challenging hike up to the Summit.

After hours of hiking up steep steps, rocks and off-track paths, our RS team eventually made it up to the 3,560 ft high summit with temperatures of minus 3 degrees. We got to the top of the summit around 11:00 AM. The cold air burst out of nowhere as we finally reached the highest point of the mountain.

Unfortunately, the visibility was very poor, with no view of what we had conquered for the past few hours but spirits were high, and we all felt proud of our accomplishment!
We spent a while at the summit, taking photos and enjoying our achievement- but we were only halfway!

Legs were aching, cramps and strains were taking a toll on some of our team members, but our work still wasn’t done here. It was time to descend.
We decided to descend back down the Miners Track, which was more accessible than the PYG Track at some points.

The Miners Track required various amounts of scrambling when climbing down.  It was very steep, but it went into a flat path afterwards, allowing us to have a more relaxed walk back to the car park.

After roughly around 3 hours of descending, we made it back to Pen y Pass, where we started our journey.

At the time of writing, we have raised a total of £3,340.

Thank You to everyone who has made a donation to our JustGiving page!

RS Snowdon Charity Walk

Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust provides babies, children and young people aged 0-18 years who have life-limited or life-threatening conditions and associated complex needs with a network of specialist palliative nursing care and support. Children visit Acorns for respite, short breaks, end life and emergency care whilst providing families with a much-needed break from caring around the clock. This support is offered from three hospices based in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, as well as in the family home and community.

On the 13th November 2021, our RS Recovery team will participate in a Charity walk up Snowdon. The route we will be tackling is the PYG Track. This track is the most rugged and challenging of the six paths🏞.

We have decided as well as a team-building exercise; it would be a great idea to raise money and awareness for a brilliant charity- Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust. Over the years, we have worked closely with this charity, and we believe it’s a great cause to support.
Any donation would be hugely appreciated!

Contractor Of The Year award

We won Outstanding Contribution Award as well as Contractor Of The Year 2017 from The RAC at an awards ceremony held at The Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London.

It was fantastic to receive recognition for the hard work of our Control Team, Recovery Drivers and Technicians.

“RS are incredibly reliable, very professional and a real pleasure to work with. Despite commercial recovery being complicated at times they always work to a high standard. I would love to replicate the drive and enthusiasm of RS across our Network.” – The RAC

Also, a big thank you to our customers for helping us to constantly improve our service that we’re then able to apply across the business.

HGV incident on the M5

On the 3rd January 2018, RS Recovery were called late in the afternoon to attend a major incident involving an fully loaded HGV on the M5.  A HGV was overturned and been on fire, which devastated the entire vehicle.  Prior to our arrival, the emergency services had put out the fire and once it had cleared, it was apparent that there was no remains of the vehicle apart form the steel structures and debris.

We executed a plan in agreement with Highways England to ensure the motorway was able to be opened the following morning, with enough time for the highways services to undertake necessary roadworks.

Due to the condition of the HGV it was a thoughtful and time-consuming job that involved removing amounts of debris and cutting large sections of the vehicle.  We employed the help of a specialist grab hire company to clear the debris and gain access to the vehicle.  Once the majority of the burnt debris was cleared, the tractor unit was split from the trailer and loaded on to a low loader.  As the trailer was a double deck, sections of it needed to be disassembled and cut to ensure it could be safely transported away from the scene.  Once this was complete, it was lifted by 2 of our vehicles and loaded on to another waiting low loader.

Once placed on to the low loader, the sections of the trailer were secured and the load was escorted back to our base.

We understand the driver was pulled out by a member of the public and taken to hospital as a precaution.
